How to Install Photoshop Brushes

How to install photoshop brushes

Tools Utilized: Adobe CC Photoshop | iMac Desktop

Do you want to expand your library of Photoshop brushes, but not sure how? No problem! It’s not as hard as one might think. In this tutorial we will be walking you through the ways to add that new favorite brush you found!

Brushing Up on Things

First off, hope you found a brush you have been eyeing. If not, that’s fine too! Go head over to:

https://www.brusheezy.com/free/photoshop

They offer premium and free Photoshop brushes. Then, find something you like. Once downloaded, navigate to your downloads folder. You will see a file titled “NameOfYourBrush_abr.zip”. Using an unzipping tool/software like winzip for Windows. However, if you have a Mac this feature is built in with the archive utility and you can just double click to unzip. This creates a folder or unzips the file. If you have a folder go inside it and locate the file  with a .abr extension. The .abr file is the brush file that will be installed in photoshop.

Manual Install

First we will look at the manual install which is my preferred method, as there is room for less error by software. Next, open your photoshop application on your computer. Locate your brushes panel. If it is not displayed, go to window > brushes. The brush panel should appear. Next, select the hamburger icon (3 lines) in the top right corner next to two arrows going right. Subsequently, a submenu will appear, and select Import brushes. That’s it! It will now show up in your brushes panel.

Quick Install

This method is very simple. Open your photoshop application. Once it’s all loaded, find your brush .abr file on your desktop or downloads (where your files save to). Finally, just double click the file and it will automatically install. Now the brushes will show up in a folder that you can select in the brushes panel.

All Brushed Up

Now you know how to install photoshop brushes, using these two methods. You’re ready to go have fun with your new brushes! Paint away my friends!
